It was thought to be mislucky to use the wood of the whitethorn for anything except as firewood. But some people used to use it to make a tlú lín. The wood was hard. They used to make tuairghíns of it too. There was a man living west here at Shinagh Cross about eighty years ago. He was a carpenter. His name was Taidhgín Riabach - Crowley Riabach He built a house for himself there.(continues on next page)
