- Long ago some people used to put a baby boy, when very young, through a horse's collar. It was thought this piseog would give him power over horses - that he would be very knowing about them, and be a fine rider. Before retiring for the night the old people used to rake the fire, brush the hearth carefully, and place the tongs standing at the right-hand side. They would also have a fresh bucket of spring water inside. It wasn't right to neglect this duty.(continues on next page)
