- There are forts on many farms.
They were used in time of war long ago. The fields in which they are situated, are scarcely ever tilled as there is a superstition that it is not right to interfere with them. They are supposed to be haunted. A man once cut a tree in the fort for fencing a field and every time he passed the field he used to hear curious noises and the gap used to fall, so he put back the tree and heard no more.- Collector
