- The local school is situated in Gurranes or as the old people call it Gurrane waterig. Built in the year 1884 during the regime of the Rev Canon Holland in the Parish, it has the reputation of being the biggest school in the parish. About twentyfour years ago it was closed down for one year owing to a lack of pupils. However it re-opened and has an average of sixty pupils attending it today.
In close proximity to the residence of Mr Jerome Buckley, there is a ruin of an old school house. A high mound is all that is there now to show the remains of a building, but the older inhabitants declare that the ruins were quite intact about fifty years ago.- Collector
