An Old Song
“On the twentieth of November in the year of '92 we went to the Races at Sleaveen near Macroom.”
(I)On the twentieth of November in the year of '92
We went to the Races at Sleaveen near Macroom.
We spent the day both jolly and gay
Wandering up and down
Till evening late we met our boys
And marched them into town
(II)We stayed there drinking beer for an hour or two
Then our horses we got ready and mustered up our crew
At Codrum Cross we met the lads
And the cowards of Cooleen Aodha
We mowed them down like corn from a field
And we gave three cheers for (?) and chains
And for Ullanes and Ardeen
