The names of the different kinds of the main crop are - Kerrspink, champions which were at one time held (in) as being the most popular variety, but of late years they have been a failure and are not generally grown in this district. Other kinds are arranbanners, arranchiefs, shamrocks and kidneys. Both arranbanners and arranchiefs grow very large and are mostly used for the feeding of animals. The potatoes that grow best in our district are Kerrspink and Arranbanners. Potatoes contain a certain amount of starch and in former times the people used extract that starch from them.
