- (continued from previous page)called "second earthing". During the summer the stalks must be sprayed twice with a mixture of copper sulphate, washing soda, and water. This protects the stalks from the blight.
- Small farmers in this district who have only one horse each agree to help each other in the setting and harvesting of the crops. This is called "coaring". The word "coaring" comes from the Irish word "cabhar" which means "help".
Potatoes are ripe for raising about the end of September or the beginning of October. Up to some time ago ridges were dug with a spade but in recent years they are being ploughed out.
