    Doon got its name from a fort which a strong tribe held. Doon means a fort or a stronghold. Minte Fliucha got its name from level stretches of wet land. Minte Fliuca means the level swamp.
    Glounreagh got its name from a glen in which coarse grass grows. Glounreagh means the coarse glen. Tureen Dubh got its name from a field the farmers had to keep their cows during the night called a mock. Tureen Dubh means "the black mock". Reidh na nGollán means a wild level piece of land in which are many long stones standing on one end called Golláns.
