    pointed out. The blight came at night and after it the potatoes were no good. They decayed in the ground and were never pitted for they were useless. The seeds of the potatoes were got from France the following year and they were sown broadcast. Yellow meal was the food for all who could buy it during the famine. The Government relief never reached this part of the country. Great numbers died and there was much sickness. The people when alluding to the famine call it "Black Forty Seven."
