On Kanturk race night,
It was I got the fright,
As I was going home to my father,
I thought I would die
When a boat I did spy,
Sailing down the Araglen Water.

I sat on the bank,
My heart fairly sank,
It was cutting the waters in two,
I turned up and sped,
The boreen in dread,
For I ne'er was before day or night
III
To the "Shamrocks" I went,
And took a good drink,
Of whiskey to lessen my fright,
I took "Jack the Lord",
On the road as a guard,
To convey me that night to my home,
When passing a gap,
Jack took a mishap
On the top of his head he was thrown.
