  1. In this district there are many old historic monuments. In the townland of Gurranes there is a stone which bears the inscription "Erected in memory of - The stone-cutter was a Fenian on the run and had not time to finish the cutting because of the English who sought him.
    On Shea's Hill in the townland of "Leabha Cailligh" there is a large stone placed on two upright ones. Under this an old rich lady was buried. It is also said that the stones were removed from some other place to this.
    From this the townland get its name which means "The Bed of the Hag".
