- Bird LoreIf a boy robbed a birds nest he would get sore hands or sore feet which would be called a blast. Long ago the people could tell what kind of weather they were going to have such as if the seagulls come inland there was going to be a storm and if the crows landed in the side of a fence it was a sign of rain and if the swallows flew near the ground it was also a sign of rain. I heard an old man say how the robin got his redbreast was when Our Lord was nailed to the cross the little robin was the bird who went near the cross to pull off the nails.
