Before this main road was made by the English Government, the people used cross the river at a place called Poul a' Waide. There were high banks at each side and a large tree was laid across. Over this the people passed when going to the village
At Ard na Croha, beside the old road leading from Freemount to Dromcollogher there is a pile of stones. Many of the White Boys were hanged in this place, and it is a custom still to throw a stone on this heap when one passes this way.
