    hard and tasteless. There was a special day set aside each week for baking. Sufficient bread was made that day to last a week.
    Bread was baked in bastibles, except in large farmers' houses where a great quantity was required daily, the griddle was used instead.
    Bastibles are still used, but the griddle has gone out of fashion.
