- The strongest men in my district were William Murphy Liscarroll and Daniel Keeffe Dromina. William Murphy threw a 14 pound sledge over the castle in Liscarroll. Daniel Keeffe could throw a 2 1/2 cwt anvil out a forge window.

Philip Noonan of Moygue was the world's champion about 50 years ago as his collection of silver and a little gold prizes can prove his acts. He got a medal in Dublin for the pole jump 11ft - 4ins Seán Óg Murphy jumped a river 24ft.
Thomas Cusack, Stephen ODea and Charles Kiely were famous mowers. Charles Kiely was the best mower of these and he used cut an Irish acre every day.
