many festivals and there are several customs attached to this day. The month of May is always considered to be what old people term "airy" and the first day of the month is considered to be the most "airy". It was a custom long ago in Ireland on May Eve for people to sprinkle holy water on their cows, horses and other property before retiring to bed. This was supposed to keep evil spirits away.
