- The leipreachán is called a clurican in this locality. He was never remembered to be seen around here. It is said that he wears very queer clothes. He wears a cap coming to a point at the top. He has a green coat and trousers, and he has shoes with the toes turned up. He sings while he works, and he is always making shoes like his own. He sits while he works. It is said that if you caught him he would blow snuff up your nose, and escape. It is said also that if you take your eyes off him, he would escape. Some people say that if you caught him he would try and make you look around, or else give you a box with a shoemaker's tool in it as a crock of gold. My grandfather saw one long ago when he was about 20 years old. He lived then in Cecilstown parish of Castlemagner. He followed him but the hid in a ditch and so escaped. The clúricán dropped something, and it was found to be a golden ring tied on to a golden crown. My grandfather, went astray then(continues on next page)
