    To night of the 23rd of June is the eve of St. John's Day.

    it in a ring so as to support it. The turf was then soaked in paraffin-oil. Then it was lit. In some of the great bonfires the flame used go about sixty feet high.
    The people danced around the fire. They never quenched the fire but at bed-time went to their homes and left the fire to burn itself out. There used be a grand fire on the moat in Killaree which is about four miles north of Churchtwon.
