    happened in the fierce light of present day publicity would have won him widespread celebrity. One day inside the military barracks he was talking to the colonel of the English regiment that happened to be stationed there at the time, when an obvious gladiator be-ribboned and be-medalled passed by. "Freeman" said the colonel proudly, "there goes our regimental boxing champion" fit to hold his own with any man in these islands!"
    Freeman was unimpressed and bluntly retorted "He never beat a good man!"
    "Would you like a few rounds with him", queried the colonel somewhat rattled. "begor I would" was the dauntless reply, "call him back to me!" There was an impromptu set-to, all the science as well as the jauntiness, being apparently on the side of the soldier. Before the close of the first round however he gave an opening which was availed of by the hard-hitting Ballymague man and it took five minutes to restore the champion of the regiment to
