Chapel Lane: So called because it formed the site of an old church. The church is not to be seen at present.
Iron Mines: So called because iron is believed to have been found in the vicinity.
Gallow's Hill Lane: Now St Joseph's Road. So called because criminals were hung from a tree which arched out over the road and that a leaf never grew on this tree. Near this tree a court house was situated. In this court house Fr. Collins was wrongfully accused of a crime by a woman who was bribed with 30/-. Next morning the woman was found floating down the river with the silver clutched in her hand. No one could be found to assist the police to bury the woman but Fr. Collins. Fr. Collins was acquitted.
