- (continued from previous page)Easter sunday was called the sunday of the eggs. On St. Martin's feast there was a cock to eat. On Good Friday people living near the strand gathered cockle shells and had poor food for to do penance on that day. Meat was eaten seldom by the people but fish was often eaten. Cabbage was eaten in the month of July. Mugs were used as vessels before cups became common. On Christmas night fish was eaten.
