- There are only two Castles in the school district, Monanimy Castle and Carrigacunna Castle. Some say that Monanimy Castle was built by the Nagles and the Monks and others say by the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem. Carrigacunna Castle was built by the Nagles, Henry Ballwin and a Colonel Foot. Carrigacunna Castle was built in the thirteenth century, Monanimy Castle was built in the thirteenth century also. Monanimy Castle was derelict for seven or eight years, Carrigacunna Castle is derelict at the present day.
Monanimy Castle is in the townland of Monanimy, Carrigcunna Castle is in the townland of Carrigacunna, Barony Fermoy, Cork, County.
