- Long ago there was an old man and his wife living in a tumbled down cottage. Many people said that the house was too bad for a pig to live in. In spite of this the old man was very rich for he was a miser He would go without food for a day rather than change one of his gold pieces. After a while he starved himself to death. His wife and son were living after him. A few nights after his death his son had a dream. In his dream a man appeared to him and said. "Your father is dead and your mother will die soon and all their money will belong to you. Half of your fathers money was got bad and this you must give to the poor. The other half you must throw into the sea. Watch where the money sinks and if anything swims there catch it and keep it. " Then the man vanished and the boy awoke. The boy did not want to part with his money for he knew he would be poor the rest of his life. Still he was honest and he made up his mind to do as he was told. He went to the(continues on next page)
