Thatched houses are few in the district.
Galvanised are the most common. There are few slate houses. Houses were much more numerous in olden days. Ruins can be seen in many places throughout the district.
The most of the land is wet and boggy as it is situated near the fertile land there too. The stream named Athan flows through the townland.
