- (continued from previous page)Thatched houses are few in the district.Galvanised are the most common. There are few slate houses. Houses were much more numerous in olden days. Ruins can be seen in many places throughout the district.The most of the land is wet and boggy as it is situated near the fertile land there too. The stream named Athan flows through the townland.
- My home district is Farahy in the townland of Ballinguiroe. It is in the parish of Kildarrery and Barony of Fermoy. There are thirteen families in the townland of Ballinguiroe and approximately about sixty four people. The family name most common is Lyons and to distinguish them from one is call the Gentleman Lyons's and the other the small Lyon's.The particular types of houses in the townland are slate and thatch. The thatched houses are thatched every by thatchers. Some people thatch them themselves and more hire professional thatchers.(continues on next page)
