- The animals of the farm are-, horses, cows, sheep, pigs, goats, donkeys, mules, jennets, foals and calves. The cows have names such as-, Pansy, Polly, Darkie, Bawny, Blue-Bell, Purty, and White-legs. When driving cows in or out of the field we say "How How" or when calling calves we say "Suck Suck".
The cow-house of long ago was a long thatched house made of mortar and stone. It was white - washed twice a year. The floor was cemented and there was a stall for each cow. In summer time the cows were milked in the field. This field was called a "Bawn". Cows were tied by the leg and horn with a rope. The tyings were bought made.
In certain times of the year an emblem is hung in the stall, for instance-, a foal - skin is hung in the stall or a horse - shoe is nailed to the stall to bring luck on the stock. Once a priest was going on a sick call. On his way he passed a farm - yard. He heard a girl(continues on next page)- Collector
