- The local roads are known as - the Glen Road, the Black Road, the Commons Road and the Newline. The Black Road leads from Six-mile-water to the Glen Road. The Glen road begins at Mourne-Abbey and leads to Blarney. The Common's Road leads from Lissavoura Bridge to Bottle-hill. The Newline leads from Cork to Mallow.
The Glen road is a very old road. It is still used. The Newline, the Commons Road and the Glen road were made as relief work during the famine periods. The poor people who worked at road making were payed four pence a day. There is a school-path near Mr. Barrett's house, Rathduff. There are stepping stones in the River Martin near Glencoum.
If a person had warts on his hands a purse was got and a pebble was put into it for every wart and the purse was carried to a cross-road. If a person picked up the purse he would get(continues on next page)- Collector
