  1. The following poem was given to me by Kitty OLeary a school child. She heard her Father sing it. The song was composed by a Mr. Vaughan. He was born near Carrigaline. He wrote two poems "Happy Dreams" and "Among the heather of Boherdee". Some 40 years ago "Happy Dreams" was published in the Cork Weekly Herald. The Editor considered the poem to be of a very high standard.
    Mr. Vaughan was a national School Teacher. He emigrated when rather young to some foreign country.
    Happy Dreams
    ---------------------
    Happy dreams I dreamt last night,
    Love return to me.
    After years of weary stay;
    Toiling in a land away;
    Far beyond the sea.
    Hand in hand I thought we strayed,
    O'er the verdant lea,
    Neath grand trees through shady bowers,
    Where Ballea Castle towers
    O'er the Abha-na-Buidhe.
