- The kind of bread that was made in my district in olden times was barm bread and wheat bread and oaten meal bread. The bread was made from the wheat and oats grown locally in my district. The wheat and the corn were ground into flour by a water-mill. The ruins of which can be seen still. Some people heard that grindstones had been used in my district. The potatoe cake was made with potatoes mixed with flour and wet with milk or water. The wheaten bread was was made with wheat flour and wet with butter milk. The oaten meal bread was made with oaten meal and flour and wet with milk or water. The barley bread was made with barely flour and wet with butter milk.
