    I am going away to-morrow, across the ocean blue; and mother dear it grieves me, to be parting thus from you.

    I am going away to-morrow,
    Across the ocean blue;
    And mother dear it grieves me,
    To be parting thus from you.
    Fortune has decreed it,
    I alas must roam;
    And bid adieu to loving friends,
    To mother and to home.
    II
    'Tis sad to leave you mother,
    It nearly breaks my heart,
    To think of many weary years
    That you and I must part.
    But please God I'll soon return
    Never more to roam,
    We'll live through life together,
    In the dear old happy home.
