- In olden times there were four fairs held in Killeagh during the year, these were called quarterly fairs. Tolls were paid on each beast such as.

2d on all horny cattle
3d on a horse.The bargain was made in the same way as today the seller would put out his hand and the buyer would give him a stroke on the hand.Very often earnest was given that was anything from a penny upwards which made the deal legal as there were no [?] at that time. Animals were marked with tar usually and if cattle were kept for grazing the name of the owner would be put on the horn with a red brand.The fairs were held in Killeagh, Castlemartyr, Mountuniacke, Ardagh and a fair was held in Ballymacoda(continues on next page)- Collector
