Straw boys would go to the houses for porter and they would have straw around their legs and face and eyes on their faces so that they would not be known. After the girl and boy getting married people would be stuck in the ditches and when the bride and bridegroom would pass them they would throw cabbage stumps at them. Sometimes matches were broken over a feathered bed and a three legged pot. Some days are lucky to get married on and more days are unlucky.
Monday for health.
Tuesday for wealth.
Wednesday the best day of all.
Thursday for losses.
Friday for crosses.
And Saturday is no day at all.
Long ago Martin Walsh made a stócach for Michael Lee. When the bride is getting married she gets a lot of presents from her mother.- Collector
