A Local Funny Story.
The following story is related about the Townland of Ballygoghan not far from where I live. There was a man by the name of Edmond O'Connell living there in the year 1904. In a neighbouring cottage there was an all-night dance being held weekly. This man more for sport than otherwise came to the conclusion, that he would put a stop to the dance. He knew where to find priest's clothes, and he put them on. He then came on horse-back to the cottage with a big whip, so as to look like the parish priest who was in Glin at the time. He dismounted when he came to the cottage, and some one at the door shouted "the priest is outside" Before he came in some went out the door, and the horseman drew a few cuts of the whip at them and the others that were inside were so terrified that they broke out through the windows. Never afterwards was there a dance held in that house.
