- A Superstitious Man.There are still many intelligent people who are superstitious. Magpies and red haired woman upset their plans. As the following story will show. A Glin man who took a great interest in horse-racing (in fact made this his hobby for some time, until he gained more wisdom by bitter experience). Had made up his mind to go to the Limerick races. He had been to many race meetings previously, and had laid many bets, but success only rarely came his way. However for this Limerick meeting which was held about 1927, he had, he was sure, got such splendid tips and reliable information, that by chancing a half score or a score of pounds, he was sure of making a small fortune or at any rate, of making up for all the losses that he had for some time sustained.
