  1. About the year 1914 a sad drowning took place in Shannon near Loughill. Patrick Hayes of Kilteery and Michael Fitzgerald set out for a day's pleasure from Loughill, County Clare. When they were returning a storm arose and the sea got very rough The boat was struck by a huge wave, and it was capsized, and the two occupants were thrown out into the shannon.
Michael Fitzgerald who now lives in Rock Lodge swam to the fishing poles and was saved. His body was washed ashore after a couple of days near the Long Rock weir in Glin
