- There seems to be no record of any type of education in this locality during the Penal Days. The old people say that very few had any education whatsoever. A wandering teacher had some sort of school in the Ferry Road in Loughill to which Gerald Griffen was sent while his parents lived at Fairy Lawn.
His teacher's name was also Griffen, but he had no connection with Gerald's parents.- Collector
