- Domestic Fowls.Fowl are to be seen in almost every farm and cottage yard in this locality. Mostly every family keeps some hens. A good number keep ducks, and only a small number keep geese and turkeys. Many of the local people started to rear turkey some years ago, but several came to the conclusion that it did not pay them, as the birds were very difficult to rear. So after a few years experiment they gave it up.Many people produce more hen eggs than they need for their own use. So they sell the surplus at certain shops in Shanagolden. Merchants come with lorries to the village a few times each week, also for the purpose of buying eggs.Very few people in this district like to give away eggs for hatching purposes, either by selling or exchanging them. While some will not give them on any account. They fear it would take away the luck of their fowl. When some(continues on next page)
