- (continued from previous page)There was an old woman in this district and she used to say a certain prayer to the Saint. Her name was a Mrs Ahern of Gortnagross Athea and this was her prayer. St Bartholomew Patron Saint of this parish help me in all my troubles and crosses. Pray to God for me to give me a long life and a Happy Death. Pray for me O great St Bartholomew and grant my request.
Many people in this district called after the Saint
r Bat Murphy Ballaugh Abbeyfeale and Mr Bat White Clash South Athea and Mr Bat Murphy Knockfinish Athea are called after the Saint. The Saint's Day was observed in the district one time and it was a custom by the old people to spend the day in prayer and giving alms in honour of the Saint and it was said that anyone that asked a request of the Saint on that Day it was(continues on next page)- Collector
