- Local Marriage Customs.The marriage customs at the present day are not the same as the customs of long ago. The people used get married in their own house long ago, and it used usually be in the bride's house. The marriage ceremony used take place about midday, and there would be great excitement in the house until nightfall.When the bride would be going from her own house to her new home she would sit up behind her husband on his horse.During the night "soppers" used come to house. They were a crowd of young men and women dressed in gaily coloured clothes and they used wear straw hats.
