  1. Once upon a time there was a man short of hay for his cows . It was in the Spring time and hay was very dear at that time . This man could get no hay to buy. So he went to an old man for hay . The old man said to him he would give him as much hay as he could take in a pike for a shilling.
The strong man got a pike stuck it in a wine of hay and gave the old man a shilling and walked off with the wine. The old man got a fright at the thought of selling his wine of hay for a shilling but he had to be satisfied.
