- My father told me that long ago when artificial manure was never heard of the people of Ireland built kilns for the burning of lime as a manure for their grass and tillage lands. Those kilns were built on the slope of a hillside so that the carting of the stuff would be all the more easy.
The lime stone is quarried and broken small. A five is made at the foot of the kiln. Then a layer of stone is put on the top of that is put a layer of culm or turf. and so on until you reach the top of the kiln. Then when the lime is(continues on next page)- Collector
