  1. In some towns they have Fairgrounds or market-yards but in Abbeyfeale they have none. In those towns you can be summoned for having your cattle on the street of a fair day. The nearest town to us having a fair green is Killarney and there is a market-yard in Listowel.
    In former times buyers used to the cross-roads a few days before the fair or sometimes to the farmers' houses to buy the cattle. At the Purt Castle three miles to the north of Abbeyfeale the quarterly fairs were held formerly. Now the people are getting modern and have them in famous Abbeyfeale. They were called "Aonach a Purt". These fairs were similar to those held in Tara in days gone by. Business was first transacted and they had
