In former times when the country people hadn't the money as plentiful as they have now they gave some of their farm products to the shop-keeper when they wanted groceries or other stuffs. If they wanted to buy a good cow they gave a cow or two according to her value. Coins
In olden times they had coins that don't exist at all now such as four shilling-pieces, farthings and four penny bits. Locally a sixpence is called a "tonner", a penny a "wing", a half-penny a "kids eye", a pound a "quid" and a shilling a "bob".(continues on next page)
