- There was a man there once by the name of McLaughlin. He was teaching in the national school first and he was principal teacher but he was dismissed and he started a school of his own and the pupils came to him to be taught. He was a very clever man and he taught Irish, English, Latin, French and German. The pupils had no pens or pencels but slates and slate pencels. He was paid from about five to ten shillings a quarter. After being teaching for about five years he went to the Home in Kanturk and he died there.
