  1. 1 One Shrove Tuesday night pancakes are made and meat is boiled plentifully. The piece of meat that is left over is fixed to the thatch with a piece of sally rod, and eaten on Easter Sunday morning.
    2 On New Year's Morning the old people came to their next - door - neighbours door and left a loaf of bread outside it.
    3 Children were branded with the ashes from a burnt sally on St. Patricks Day.
    4 When a cow calved the "beetings" were given to the neighbours, who usually sent back a "lawar" of flour instead.
    5 No one eats blackberries after November night because the Pooka has them destroyed and reserved for the "Good People".
    6 Never allow a person who came in while you were churning to go out again without taking a hand at the churning.
    7 You should never begin an enterprise on a Monday.
    8 A bride should have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.
    9 You should always bless yourself when you see a new moon.
