    butter would be made, it would be taken out into a but and the butter milk washed out by cold water. Then the butter would be salted with cups made of timber. Then about 70 pounds of butter would go into a firkin and this firkin was sent to Newcastlewest for sale. Some firkin would hold more. There would be buyers from Cork and Limerick at Newcastlewest. The price of a firkin of butter would be from 50/- to £3:10:0.
