    To clean the chimney a bundle of hay or a well bound thick furze was drawn by two ropes up and down the chimney till no soot was left. To do this one man was on top of the chimney while the other stood below.
    In each hob beside the fire was a hole for the child's "Panny." In the corner was fitted a flag for the child to sit on. Very often there was a hole under this flag into which the floor sweepings were swept.
