2. Two Years Old and Three Years Old

   "Two Years' Old" and "Three Years' Old"

   These were the names of the local factions. At every fair or pattern the members of these factions gathered in full strength to shout, wheel, and fight with blackthorns for their clan. The origin of the faction was over the purchase of a bull. Having purchased a bull from a cousin, as being two years old, the purchaser asked some neighbours skilled in reading the horns or teeth to examine the animal and he decided he was three years old. The seller was accused of cheating. His friends and neighbours were gathered to prove they knew him since he was a calf. The buyers' friends and neighbours were not going to believe their oaths in it. As the day wore on, and more and more whiskey added to its inspiration, the wrangling developed into a free fight, where it was stated a thousand blackthorns were in action
