  1. (continued from previous page)
The servants ran hither and thither screaming but he demanded to see the landlord, who was entertaining some friends to dinner.
The matter was made known to Mr. Tisdall that a wild man was in the kitchen looking for him and he decided to see him and told the servants to show him into the dining room. This they did and immediately he poured out his story in broken English - how he was threatened with eviction although he had full rent, which he produced in a little bag, which was tied round his neck. He also said that the same thing had happened to many others and that he was the last one to be.
It was the first of it the landlord had heard. He was furious that such villainy was being done in his nae. He ordered food and drink for the poor man, gave a clear receipt for all rent due by him and told him that he'd settle with the agent. He ordered a room and a bed to be got ready but our poor man - by name "Gaff" would not rest till he got home again and so he started out again and "hit" the road home. But the landlord saw to it that he was well supplied with food for the journey. He never heard a word of the eviction or [?] after hence that property is now in the hands of the Howard's-Gaff's daughter "Jane" (R.I.P.) being married to Howard.
