- On St. Stephen's day, boys dress up in such a manner that nobody will know them. They go in procession from house to house and recite this verse,
"The wren, the wren the King of all birds,
St. Stephen's day, he was caught in the furze,
Up with the kettle and down with the pan,
Rise up young lady, and give us our treat,
From bush to bush, from tree to tree,
In Caherconlish, we broke her knee
We knocked her down and she couldn't see
We brought her to your on a holly tree,
If the money is anyway slack,
Give us a slice of your barm brack."
They gather lots of money. If two or three are together, they gather about two pounds. It is divided among them equally.
