A Song (continued)
“The long, long wished for hours have to come a store in vain,”
(continued from previous page)I've trod for thee the mountain side,
And slept beneth the break,
More lonely than the swan, that glides
More low as fairy lakes.
The rich man spurned me from his door,
Because I set thee free,
But still I love thee more and more
A Chuisle ghil mo chroidhe.
IV
I've given thee my youth, and manhood's early days,
I've blessed thee in the sunniest hours,
And said for thee my prayers,
And should my native chance befall,
E'en that should welcome be,
In death, I love thee more than all
A Chuisle ghil mo chroidhe. This was composed by "Doheny" he was one of the Fenians who fled one night with others, as the soldiers were on their track. They spent a night in the Keeper Mountains, and there he composed the poem. He lived in Old Pallas. The house is now knocked, but a new one is built on the same spot and it is occupied by Mr. Hugh Hayes, Old Pallas, Pallasgreen, Co. Limerick.- Collector
